ABOUT US
Stories by Stranger is an online support community and safe space for victims of sexual and mental abuse. It allows people to share their stories anonymously and some of them are collaboratively turned into animations to be viewed by the public.
The animations aim to disrupt the flow of desensitized media about mental health and abuse. They are posted online to find the good side of social media and translate that into a safe space while maintaining anonymity. This project recognizes survivors worldwide, emphasizing the critical need for safety awareness. We always do and will continue to spread acceptance through our motto,' We hear and believe you'.

OUR STORY

2020
The creator has consistently used her work to address themes of consent and sexual health. In 2020, this commitment led an anonymous collaborator to seek her help, reaching out with an email titled:
"Would you be willing to tell my story?"
2021
Hannah Gadsby, a renowned women's activist, once said, "You have to tell your story properly." This survivor of abuse sought exactly that. The creator collaborated with them to animate their experience, which gained significant attention online.
2022
Eventually, with the growing influx, Stories by Strangers was born. People began submitting their experiences anonymously, collaborating with the creator to bring their stories to life.
2023
Gradually, the animations adopted an experience-based approach, offering a therapeutic way to express trauma while giving storytellers creative agency. Survivors are equipped with artistic tools to shape their stories, incorporating unique characters, vibrant colors, and surreal settings.
2024
We collaborate with therapists to provide victims with appropriate local resources when they submit their stories, including pro bono legal assistance. These animations not only raise awareness among wider audiences but also create a personal connection through the storytelling itself.
